Rocket launcher

The SPNKR rocket launcher is a weapon available in each of the games in the Marathon trilogy. The player's weapons manifest gives it the name "SPNKR-X18 SSM Launcher." The rocket launcher holds 2 rockets by default, and a player can hold 8 rockets (4 rocket packs with 2 in each) in his inventory. This weapon has a larger blast radius than that of the grenade's, and can give off higher damage (getting hit by one gives you 1.85x your shield amount at default, meaning if you bear only 1 shields, getting hit can and will kill you) compared to the 0.6x damage of the grenade launcher.

Tactics

Fire rockets at your enemy from medium range, leading his movements and dodging into cover while you reload.

Non-combative uses

Firing a rocket at switches will trigger them; some switches even need shooting to activate them. Shooting circuits will toggle or destroy them in the same way that attacking them with a fist, shotgun or grenade will. In Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity all switches and circuits are able to be weapon triggered. This was intentional in order to provide players the ability to strictly comply with the Vidmaster's oath. There are some switches in Marathon that are inaccessible from the ground, requiring alternate means to trigger them.

The rocket launcger can also be used to rocket jump.
