Fighters are the front line infantry of the Pfhor. Fighters are generally of the aggregate rank, although the possibility of pfhor being lowered to the Conditioned rank has been mentioned. The fighter carries a staff weapon–a long, gnarled stick with a crystal at the end that is capable of dealing a rather small amount of damage upon impact with the enemy. More powerful fighters can launch energy projectiles from these crystals, which can travel a theoretically infinite distance, and cause more damage than a melee impact.

The fighter is the most ubiquitous military unit in the Pfhor army, and it seems that most Pfhor wear the armor of a common fighter in everyday life.

Classes

Fighters wear different colors of armor to denote abilities and rank:

Minor fighter

Green armor denotes the lowest rung of Pfhor fighters: the minor fighters. In most cases, these weaklings can be killed with a single running punch. Minor fighters are generally the first aliens that the player encounters in each episode of the Marathon series.

Major fighter

Purple armor is worn by the major fighter, whom can take about twice as much damage as the minor fighter. When the game's difficulty level is set to "Total Carnage", no minor fighters ever appear. Instead, you will see only major fighters.

Minor projectile fighter

Orange armor belongs to the minor projectile fighters, whom can take only slightly more damage than a normal minor fighter, and whose staffs are capable of launching energy bolts.

Major projectile fighter

Blue armored fighters are major projectile fighters, whom can take about twice as much damage as the minor projectile fighter. When the game's difficulty is set to "Total Carnage", no minor projectile fighters ever appear. Instead, you will see only major projectile fighters.

Elite fighter

Dark gray armor is worn only by Elite soldiers, such as members of Admiral Tfear's personal guard whom make their only appearance on the level You Think You're Big Time? You're Gonna Die Big Time! and the Vidmaster Challenge levels. They can survive numerous direct hits from rockets before dying.
