The Marathon Trilogy contains numerous references to mythological and cultural people, places, and things.

Electric Sheep One, Two, and Three are levels in Marathon Infinity and refer to Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?[1] The implication of dreaming is often repeated during the Marathon Infinity story and having "dreams" of electric sheep is another nod to the cybernetic nature of the player-character. Dick often wrote novels that challenged the realities of the characters and worlds. Martian Time-Slip is an example that has been pointed out due to its similarity to Infinity: the novel "works to undermine (even deconstruct) linear time and narrative."[2]
